Terrorists fired at Israelis sitting in an observatory near the settlement of Kochav Yaakov, but missed and did not hit them, Israel Hayom has learned. The community is located north of Jerusalem and south of Ramallah, near Route 60.
The incident took place last Thursday, near midnight, but for some reason did not appear on the public agenda. The security forces received a report of hearing gunfire near Kochav Ya'akov, and when they arrived at the scene, they found three shell casings.
Today (Friday) it turns out that there were young people who miraculously survived the site, Mitzpe Eliyahu. The group at the observatory, near the community of Kochav Yaakov, identified the vehicle that fired at them and missed them.
A barrel sticking out of a white Skoda
"We were sitting in the observatory with a few guys when suddenly we heard a boom coming from the direction of the road," says one of the young men. "We turned around immediately and saw a white Skoda vehicle with black windows and a yellow license plate, driving on the road about 30 meters from where we were sitting."
"From the front window, which was half open, only the barrel of the rifle protruded. He fired four bullets at us as we drove and fled toward Psagot and Ramallah. By a miracle we weren't hurt, if he had had the courage to stop, we would be somewhere else today," he said.
The IDF confirmed that there was indeed a report of hearing gunfire and shell casings were found at the scene, but did not acknowledge that there were Israelis at the scene. It is unclear what discrepancy was in the report, which made the attempted attack much more significant. This is an area that is sometimes considered safer than Samaria, and the fact that terrorists tried to shoot at Israelis there is extremely disturbing.
